All right. Welcome back to another episode of Extreme Lifestyle Living Podcast. Now, today I'm actually recording the episode in the reception area to the left of me. I have my hot tub, I have my cold plunge, and then I have my cenote in front of me, and it is raining incredibly hard right now. So I'm not sure how great this audio is gonna be. I usually put a little bit of a filter on the audio to make it more crisp and clear, but you know, we're in a busy area in the. Um, condominium that we're staying at and Emma's upstairs doing a little bit of work and I just always love giving you guys a scene sometimes of where I'm at here in Mexico because it is so fucking beautiful and I can't believe it's my life, you know, living here and stuff. Right. And that actually is a good segue into today's episode. And today's episode is, um. Your perspective and how your perspective shapes everything in your life. And you know, to a degree, we can't deny the hardships we're going through. We can't deny the traumas we're going through and we can't deny the realities of some of our situations. But we can be in control of our perspective. We can be proactive with how we view life. And you know, something with myself and how verbal I am about my mental health and. My community and what I'm doing with my day-to-day, week-to-week life from a physical standpoint, emotional standpoint, mental standpoint, financial standpoint, in all those regards. I just love to always share the good, the bad, and the great. And the reason why I like to do that is because, you know, like I said, we can't deny what we've been through. You know what we can't, uh. We can't allow what we've been through and what we're going through during tough times to define our success and define who we are. And that's where our perspective can come in and give us so much clarity. And you know, the reason I'm saying your perspective shapes everything is because, you know, if you're always focusing on the grasses, being greener on out, other areas of your life. It's always gonna be greener. If you're always focusing on the glass being half full and half empty, it's always gonna look half empty and half full. Do you know if you're always focusing and dwelling on the negativities of life, you know, whether you're not making enough money, whether you're not in good enough shape, or whether you're not enough happy, whether you're, whether or not you're not happy in certain areas, you're always gonna be looking at those areas. You know what I mean? It's almost like imagine you lived in a beautiful house, you know the house of your dreams. You guys let that, um, run rampant in your mind. Bring the pigment, bring that Ima imagination out, you know, what is your dream house like? What is it? Is it a couple car garage? Um, do you have a couple car garages? Do you have like, is it a three story house? Is it a mansion? Is it apartment building? Is it a condo? Is it a high rise? Like whatever it may be. Like imagine the best possible outcome. It's imagine you have that. Do you know what I mean? And imagine you're just completely staring at the wall, less than three centimeters away from a blinding yourself from everything. That's what happens when you have a shitty perspective and you don't focus on the right things, is you're not even gonna be able to put yourself in a position to be grateful for what you have. Be grateful for the great things going on in your life because there's the quote that I heard at the beginning of this year and it said, there's a lot of greatness in the world and there's a lot of great people in this world, but you gotta go and find it. And unfortunately we live in a world that's very stigmatized around negativity, especially from social media and news outlets. It's always focusing on the negativity in the world. Like right now, it's all about, you know, the war that's going on over the overseas, it's going on. It's always about politics. It's always about the COVID shots. It's always about all these different things that make us feel the weight of the world around us. And you know, that weight of the world. Stay or to bear 100%. That's the prime example of what I'm saying. You can't deny these things and how you feel and what's going on, but you can't let them be the definitive factor of how you feel about your life. You know, a lot of you guys are putting in a lot of work. A lot of you guys are putting in a lot of intention. A lot of you guys are putting in a lot of effort and that's where you gotta rely your perspective on. So what I mean by that is like prime example with the gym. You know, we all wanna be in better shape. You know, we all wanna have more muscle. We all all wanna be faster or stronger, whether it's more prs in the gym, whether it's, you know, running more kilometers in our endurance training, whether it's having less body fat percentage, whether it's, you know, fitting in better clothes and, you know, it's easy to focus on the grasping, greener in other areas of people being in better shape. But what about the work that you've put. What about the work of how far you've come? You know, what about that version of you that have never been in the gym before? What about that version of you that didn't even know what macros or micros are, but now you're calculating them like crazy, you know? Same with your career. Do you remember that time when you were in high school? Probably working at a shitty part-time job. My, my first job was at Bingo Hall, then I worked at the Scotia Bank'cause I had a good, uh, transition from like college and things like that. And, but all these are part-time in always jobs. Do you know what I mean? What about those jobs that you had that you hated and now you have a full on career? You know, we can't deny that maybe you wanna make more money, have a better job, and, you know, have a better career and have better financial stability. But like, you know, where you're at now is still hell of a lot farther than where it used to be. You could be flipping burgers and McDonald's, and if you are, that's nothing against you, and nor again nor that is that a bad idea. But again, if you're in, if you're a busy professional showing off your life, most of you guys have careers that listen to this podcast. Most of you guys are in areas of your life where if you don't have the career you want, your partner does, or someone around you does, where you're. Almost like, you know, compensating for that to help the bigger picture, which in itself is your perspective to focus on the bigger picture and what's going on at play, you know, so there's so many levels to these things that we could talk about. And even your relationship, right? Like I know a lot of men always are so quick to be like, you know, I could be happier, I could be doing this, I could be doing that. And you know, I can only speak from a male's perspective, but. What about the boundaries you've cultivated to create the life you have now? You know what I mean? What about the woman that's supporting you right now? Do you know? And I feel like with a world full of lust and a world full of social media and a world full of always like showing different things on Instagrams for men, like, you know, it's always gonna make you feel like there's another thing out there for you. There's always gonna like, what if I missed an opportunity? I've actually had several guys say that to me, where they left phenomenal women that were supporting them, helping them create their dreams of their lives, but they're like, well, I just wanna be in a position to make. Maybe there's something better out there. The better that's out there is your perspective to focus on what you get. Do, you know, same with women. Like, you know, it's not literally, literally the same as women on Instagram with, you know, going on Instagram and like, oh, is there a better guy out there and stuff? For me, usually it's on the contrary where it's like a physicality for them. You know, it's like there's girls in bikinis or there's girls wearing clothes, or there's girls living a Life that make it seem like they're way better than them, and they're like, oh, I don't feel good enough, you know, and they, you just get beat to a fucking pumble where you always focusing on the grass of being greener on other sides of your life. Focusing on your glass being half empty and looking at where it should be filled in other areas. And you know, again, like some of these things do have realities to them, you know,'cause again, any type of trauma or any type of negativity, you feel there is some truth to it, to a degree, but you can't let it be at the expense of your quality of health. And that's where your perspective shapes everything, because you gotta have some type of mental catalog where you can focus on yourself to put yourself in the position to be happy. You know, prime example, today's Friday, you know, it's the end of the week. I'm fucking tired. I woke up and I was all scatterbrained trying to do too many things at once. And I started getting in my head thinking things aren't where they should be. And you know, I let my almost and my emotions dictate how I feel and how I view the world, which is normal'cause you can't deny it. I'm tired, you know, I gotta go work out today. I gotta hit my list second leg day of the week, and I'm exhausted. I worked all week. I've been having shitty sleeps because, uh, for whatever reason, you know what I mean? And, you know, I could have this perspective of like, you know, sleep's going bad and, you know, let that door, let that door open to a bunch of other things that I think are going bad. But there's a lot of things that are going great. So you gotta have a mental catalog to make sure that you can review yourself and review your life and review your day-to-day habits to make sure you're putting yourself in a position to be grateful and thankful for what you have, because your perspective does shape everything. And there's even a case study, not to go in a rant about this, but there's even a case study that was done for people in hospital going through cancer treatment, going through chemotherapy, going through radiation therapy, and there's an 83 success rate through a, a trial of case study of people having similar cancer and similar. Treatments that 83% of the people that had a positive outlook and believed they were gonna get better and focus on the positives and focus on the glass being half full and focusing on water in their own grass, they had an 83% success rate of healing. So how powerful is that? So prime example, if you're looking at your life, let's say, going back to that analogy of the house that you're living in, whether it's a mansion or a couple car garages, or you know it's a loft or it's a high rise, whatever it is, your dream home that you're living in like, and you're fucking sitting there stuck with your forehead against the wall, and you're like, oh, I don't see any greatness. It's because of your perspective. Imagine that you could say 83% likely you'd be 83% more likely to have the house of your dreams if you were to back up off the wall and focus on it. That's how powerful our mindset is, you know?'cause if you think you're, if you, you know, if you think you're doing shitty, you're gonna do shitty. And there's that quote that I love too. It's like, if you think you're right, you're right. If you think you're wrong, you're right. So that's the thing with the power of your imagination and you know, your perspective molding everything. And a few takeaways for you guys to understand of like how to keep your mindset sharp, is you gotta focus on the things that make you feel good. Like if reading really relaxes your mind and brings you a sense of peace, a sense of grounding, and a sense of calmness, you have to factor in reading every single day, every single week. Now, you don't have to chase perfection. You're not gonna read every day, you're not gonna journal every day. You're not gonna have. Time.'cause life's crazy to do these things every single day. But at the same time, you gotta make sure you're doing it enough and putting enough time in the arena in these areas to see the results you want. It's no different than the gym. You gotta track your calories and show up in the gym and track your work with enough to see success. It's not every single day. So it's the same thing with your career. You gotta show up with, you know, doing education, doing the continued development in certain areas and putting in the work to get certain conversations in a certain area. But it's not every single day. So, you know, if you like reading and it really gives you a sense of peace and calmness, you have to factor in reading a few times a week. To give you that ground, give you that groundness, that's you watering your own, um, grass to make sure it's green where you're fucking standing. You know that. Make sure your perspective is sharp. Make sure your perspective is articulate as to who you are with your life and where you're at. You know, and if you have faith or believe in spirituality and religion, you know, you gotta practice like, you know, reading the Bible. For me personally, like I don't read as much as I would like to. I have a couple books I have on the go, but I'm big into my faith right now. Big into my spirituality. I have, um, I use a daily Bible app every day. I read a scripture, not every day. Four to six times a week, give or take, you know, so five days on average. I have a daily devotional book as well. I read a daily devotion every single day. I read that every morning. Like I said, not every morning, but again. 83% of the time through the course of the week. So four to six times a week. I read that every morning'cause it puts my hand on my shoulders. And then another thing is you have to have some type of self-expression mentally. You know what I mean by self-expression? Mentally is like, you know, reading is an external self-expression, so you're expressing yourself outwards by or, um, it's an internal, um. Uh, type of self-expression story. So you're, you're reading and you're in, you're in, you're intaking information, you're intaking things to change what you've been thinking about all day, which is half the battle.'cause again, you become your thoughts. Even they're negative and you're focusing on the negativity of every avenue of your life. You're right, that's the problem with these things, right? So if you can mold your perspective to focus on the other side of things, which is why fantasy books are good, which is why reading different types of books are good for like, just a storyline, you know, imagination, you know, watching, sometimes even watching, um, Netflix shows or your favorite movies are great for this as well.'cause you're ingesting information. You know, listening to music as well is a big thing as well because you're ingesting information and things to challenge that perspective and change things. So that's all ingesting things to make sure that you're challenging your perspective, to give you more groundness and gimme more clarity and more calmness amongst all the chaos. But the thing is, you gotta have, and this is where most people fail. You gotta have some type of external expression, whether it's our, like me doing the podcast is a big form of external, um, expression. Like I'm speaking outwards. I'm getting my minds, my mind and my thoughts out in, into the world, you know? So I'm articulating how I feel. I'm, I'm working on myself and I'm speaking things into existence, and that's why I'm so honest and raw with how I feel and talking. There's not really much script as to what I'm talking about when I do these podcasts. I have topics and I. Um, I have topics and I have a title and things like that, but I don't have this definitive step-by-step thing, step-by-step, like script that I follow for these things.'cause it's a very outwards expression thing for me. And it works for me. It doesn't mean it has to work for you, but even when you go and have that, that really good conversation with your family member, that really good conversation with a friend, you know, or that really, really hard workout that you know, you gave it your, all that is outward expression and you need to do that for your mental health as well. So, you know, when you have those friends you can go chat with, you know, do it. Make sure you do it minimum two times a month. Minimum one times a month. You've gotta do some of this thing to get some of that expression outside your own perspective, to give yourself that calmness. Give yourself that grounding this, give yourself that joy, that fulfillment to be able to like articulate yourself in a more of a positive manner. And I'm a big believer that journaling is the best outward expression. I believe that is the biggest thing because you are writing and articulating your thoughts. You're molding and reprogramming your subconscious mind to look at life in a different manner. And you know, that's why affirmations are positive. That's why reframing, um, your mindset is very positive, is because you're deciding to not only embrace how you feel.'cause again, you can't deny what you're going through. You can't deny how you feel. You can't deny the things that come up in the world that make you feel certain things. Like I said, there's a lot of truth and validity in these things, but at the same time, they are not the defining factor of your success. So if you feel certain types of way about your life and you're not expressing yourself to understand the clarity behind it, then how are you gonna fix it? Like prime example, with the fitness side of things, you know, everyone, like I said, everyone wants to go to the gym and have muscle mass, lose body fat and feel their best in that regard. But until you articulate it on paper and have conversations with yourself or what a coach or somebody that you trust, you're never gonna know what it is. Like, is it actually the clothes that motivate you? Like if it, is it the scale that motivates you? Like if you see a lower number on a scale, sure, that's sign success, that, that, that's a sign of success. But does that make you feel good all around about your body weight and where you're going with your life? Or would you much rather feel confident in your clothes? Would you much rather feel confident in the mirror? Would you much rather feel confident in photos? Because that's, that's more of a clear picture as to what you need and what you want for your, your fitness goals. You know, same thing when it comes to nutrition. If you have overwhelming emotions around tracking and overwhelming emotions around, you know, like food and all these different things, it's like, what are you doing to articulate your emotions around to find out where it's coming from? Most of the time it comes from childhood trauma and growing up. Like what a very systemized way of eating, and you just don't know how to combat that. Because to combat that is to combat, is to challenge the way you grew up, which is a very, very heavy thing to do. When you start writing, you start articulating yourself and you know, like deciding to embrace the internal dialogue. You actually hear and reframing it and writing, okay, I feel X, Y, and Z, and affirming that it's not real. Then those are the biggest things, and I always write three affirmations every single fucking day. And one two affirmations right now around my financial wealth, because I grew up on poverty, I grew up with not very much money, and two of my affirmations are stemmed around financial wealth, making sure I don't get defined by the numbers, but I get defined by the actions of what I do each day to make sure I materialize that wealth. And then another affirmation is for my mental health to make sure I stay clear. And focus on the right things. You know, I feel like there was a point in my life where I wanted to and crave validation from other people. I do believe that comes from growing up the way that I did. I'm not sure entirely why I'm still figuring that out, but I do know it's real and it there. So for me, I gotta write an affirmation as to who matters to my life and why. So I have a. Pigeonhole and I'm very clear as to why my motivation is, is where it's at. So when I get tired, I still have that clarity and that focus to stay positive so I can shape my perspective on the glass is half full and I'm, I'm watering the grass that I'm standing on, you know? And then gratitude, you gotta write out gratitude things every single day. It doesn't have to be anything crazy. It could be the great, I'm grateful I. I'm grateful for my job. I'm grateful for the fact that I can even write this and write this note down because, you know, that's an outward expression that is very just not taken serious. You know, practicing gratitude is absolutely everything because again, like you know, the whole analogy, like, you know, the grass is greener, where like the grass is greener on the other side of the fence, it's because you're not even grateful for the grass you're standing on. So gratitude shows you where you're standing at and where your feet are at, and being grateful for where you're standing. You know, the analogy of the glass is half full. You know, gra gratitude and being grateful is actually where you learn how to be grateful for the glass being half full in itself. So then, you know what else you need to pour into that cup to get it to be a full cup, to get your grass to be fully green. You know? And that's why the analogy of you looking in your house and, and looking at the, the, your dream house and let your, your imagination run crazy. And articulate what exactly what that looks like. You know, you're always gonna look at, oh, I could have a bigger pool, I could have more, I could have more, more, um, more cars in my garage. Or I could have a bigger land, or whatever it may be. If you're not even grateful for the house that you have, you know, so gratitude, affirmation is reframing and a little bit of a goal list, you know?'cause then again, you're winning. Have a winning mindset by setting up goals for these day. And you know me, I'm a fucking full-time online fitness coach. I have a whole community. I've been running for several years now. And, um, one of the things I write down from on a goal list every day is hit my macros. You know, and like that, the reason why I'm sharing that is'cause the simplicity behind that is so powerful. You know, most people think that working out and going to the gym and tracking the nutrition is a transactional process, and they just get in the best shape of their life, and there's a day that they don't have to do it anymore. I'm doing it at this level, you know, and this is the best shape I've ever been in in my life, and this is the highest level of training I've ever been at in my life. I have a lot of goals I wanna crush next year, and I'm still writing it in my journal to this day to track my macros to this day, to stay hydrated to this day, to rest and recover because the power of Affirm affirmations and the power of a goal is, and the power of reframing and the power of gratitude is just. Too powerful to let slip, you know? And the day that you stop learning is the day that you actually die. You know what I mean? If you're not learning about yourself every day, every week, and again, it's not every day, it's more times than not, then you know you failed. And that's when you become a victim of having a poor mindset and focusing on everything else in life that you feel like's not going right. You know, so that's all I have for today's episode. Your perspective shapes absolutely everything in your life. Yes. You cannot deny the hardships that you're going through. Yes, you cannot deny the traumas you're going through. Yes, you cannot deny the reality of the life that you're in, but there is so much good in the world, but it's on you every single fucking day to go find it. So go fucking find it.
